Flat woven rugs have no pile, so they are thinner and more flexible than a plush tufted or hand-knotted rug. These rugs are usually reversible. They're among the longest-lasting rug types and can be made from wool, cotton or synthetic materials.

Dhurrie and kilim rugs are two of the more popular styles of flat weave rugs. Strictly speaking, authentic Dhurries are made in India and are made of wool or cotton. Authentic kilims (pronounced ‘Cah-lim’) are usually made in Turkey, China and Egypt, and are made of wool only.

Because they are thin and can move around, we recommend always using a good quality rug pad with a flat woven rug.
