Designed by Charles and Ray Eames® Part of the Herman Miller® Collection
The Eames lounge chair and ottoman are perhaps the best-known example of mid-century modern furniture. It's no wonder the Eames lounge chair and ottoman are in the permanent collection of the New York Museum of Modern Art. Introduced in 1956, Charles Eames said he wanted the chair to have the 'warm receptive look of a well-used baseman's mitt.' A look that just begs you to relax in it.
The chair and ottoman are hand-assembled with meticulous attention to detail. The shell is seven-ply veneer faced with Walnut or Santos Palisander -- a richly grained wood that provides a sustainable alternative to the Brazilian rosewood used on the original chair.
The upholstered leather cushions provide luxury, comfort and style in your choice of colors. Both the standard leather and MCL leather are gorgeous full-grain, semi-aniline leathers The difference between them is that the standard leather has a slightly more protective finish than the MCL leather which means it'll still patina over time but not as much as MCL. Standard leather is also a bit less susceptible to stains. Standard leather has been lightly grain-correct for a lightly pebbled look. MCL leather has a natural grain which will vary more from chair to chair. Both are wonderfully soft and breathable but MCL is just a bit more buttery to the touch.
The base is die-cast aluminum with a built-in swivel mechanism.
