The Eames lounge chair and ottoman are perhaps the best-known example of mid-century modern furniture. It's no wonder the Eames lounge chair and ottoman are in the permanent collection of the New York Museum of Modern Art. Introduced in 1956, Charles Eames said he wanted the chair to have the 'warm receptive look of a well-used baseman's mitt.' A look that just begs you to relax in it.

The chair and ottoman are hand-assembled with meticulous attention to detail. The shell is seven-ply veneer faced with Walnut or Santos Palisander -- a richly grained wood that provides a sustainable alternative to the Brazilian rosewood used on the original chair.

The upholstered leather cushions provide luxury, comfort and style in your choice of colors. Both the standard leather and MCL leather are gorgeous full-grain, semi-aniline leathers. The differences between these top-of-the-line leathers are subtle.

Standard leather: Herman Miller's standard leather is a wonderful, soft and breathable leather with a slightly more protective finish than the Prone leather. It will patina over time but not as much as Prone leather. Standard leather is also a bit less susceptible to stains. Standard leather has been lightly grain-correct for a lightly pebbled look that is very consistent from one chair to the next.

Prone leather: Prone celebrates the inherent beauty of leather returned to its natural state. This resilient leather is from superior raw material, is minimally finished with transparent dye and light pigment, and features a supple hand with a soft grain texture.

The base is die-cast aluminum with a built-in swivel mechanism.
