The Eames lounge chair and ottoman are perhaps the best-known example of mid-century modern furniture. It's no wonder the Eames lounge chair and ottoman are in the permanent collection of the New York Museum of Modern Art. Introduced in 1956, Charles Eames said he wanted the chair to have the 'warm receptive look of a well-used baseman's mitt.' A look that just begs you to relax in it.
The chair and ottoman are hand-assembled with meticulous attention to detail. The shell is seven-ply veneer faced with Walnut or Santos Palisander -- a richly grained wood that provides a sustainable alternative to the Brazilian rosewood used on the original chair.
All three leathers are gorgeous full-grain, semi-aniline leathers. The difference between them is that the standard leather (also called 2100 series) has a slightly more protective finish than the Prone leather. Standard leather will patina over time but not as much as Prone. Standard leather is also a bit less susceptible to stains. Standard leather has been slightly grain-corrected for a lightly pebbled look. Prone leather has a natural grain which will vary more from chair to chair. Both are wonderfully soft and breathable.
The base is die-cast aluminum with a built-in swivel mechanism.
