Alvar Aalto Vase - 3.75"

Lead Time: 1 week

The Aalto vase has become one of the world’s most iconic glass objects. Originally designed by Alvar Aalto and his wife Aino Marsio for the Savoy restaurant in Helsinki and entered into a design competition for the Karhula-Iittala glassworks factory in 1936. The vase was displayed at the 1937 World Fair in Paris and created a buzz in the design world. Its curving shape has been the subject of much speculation; some say it is based on Aalto's sketches entitled, "The Eskimo Woman's Leather Breeches." Others speculate that it might be inspired by the undulated shapes of the many lakes that dot the Finnish landscape. The vase has been manufactured in huge aray of colors over the years. Iittala's artists continue to produce Alvar Aalto's works in accordance with his vision.
